All our life we have thrived for success. We celebrate success and intelligence. That’s how everything around us is designed. We study well in school to join best colleges. Best colleges and best performance again leads to best jobs. Best jobs expect us to do our best to make sure the companies we join retain its "best" status.
This formula applies to everything around us except our government. We allow someone with absolutely no knowledge or worldly wisdom whatsoever to govern and dictate rules for us. We accept that there are power cuts for more than 3 hours every day while half of the electricity produced in the state is unaccounted or stolen. We accept the fact that we don’t have enough potable water to drink because politicians find it as a tool to get elected every year than to solve it. Because solving it won’t help their cause of sitting simply and making false statements. We accept the fact that government is not able to get the wealthy pay taxes, that they put in all sorts of indirect taxes where you and me are paying 12.2% for every service we get and 10- 20% on every product we buy which includes salt as well.
Well these are something which we are used to everyday of our life. What difference is it going to make by me writing about it, or you reading it. This is how things are done in India. There are also other things which are done in India which is also quite handled the same way. Mumbai, 26 November 2008. This is one of terrorist attacks which I was fully aware of. Yet what do I do. I stay at home for one single day. The next day is like any other. There are problems only in the south Mumbai. I stay in the west so I can continue to work as though no one is dying around us. The news channels will cover this and talk about it till the next attack or scandal elsewhere. The at most outcome would be change of government in the next by elections. Well the change will be choosing between Mumbai blast and Godra riots.
So where does the issue lie? We accept the mediocrity around us. I question the companies I rate why they have lost one percent profit. I punish mediocrity with high interest rates. Yet I accept bombing of my city, I live in fear. Yes, I still keep writing. You keep reading. Nothing is ever going to be done about it.
- Fear- of losing everything I dearly love. That includes human loses. We saw what happened to an IITian in Orissa road project.
- Selfishness- Why should I sacrifice my life for the society which is not honest enough to even support my cause.
