My Best Friend!

I sat in the corner of Class 12
Just before the last row
An rider written on the board
I looked out of the window, clearly bored

Bird chirping in the tree near me
I wonder about the day
Seven more hours to go
I am tempted to call sick and leave

Suddenly I hear a voice behind me
Enquiring my name
I keep looking out
Pretending to be on my own

The bell goes at ten past nine
I close my note, curiosity won
Turning around I look at you
Just to see you looking straight at me

I hardly react
You say 'hi' and shook my hand
I say 'hello', I don't even smile,
I turn back, opening my notebook again

Two days go by
You speak to everyone meanwhile
I change my place to sit behind you
Thinking I should say 'hello' again

Everyday then, you turn back to say 'hi'
Donno why I could nt talk back to you
But I smiled back this time
And I realise, a month had gone by

Knowing it was your birthday tomorrow
On my way back home
I stopped and roamed inside a gift shop
Wondering what to buy

Next day morning,
Relentless, you greet me with your usual 'hi'
I wish you happy birthday
And hand you the card

You smile at me for the first time
Clearly surprised, with pure delight
I was the only one who remembered
And that's how we became best friends, and still remain.

Connecting People

Standstill, I look to my right

Subtle Romance

Handsome guy, beautiful girl

Shining with the circle of trust

I smile - 'Youth'

Standstill, I look left

Worry lines creasing his forehead, He shruggs

Love!!!

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya (2010)


It’s simply just another love story for a person who has seen a variety of good and bad movies. It can be described as a little slow movie. But the director has depicted how it happens for any other person in the real world. To put one of my friend who liked the movie. It can be understood by anyone who has fallen in love.
The story is a one liner. Just a another no so good looking guy, who has finished his degree but still have not found a job, sees this very beautiful girl and falls in love immediately. The girl happens to live in the top floor of the hero’s house. Usually it’s the opposite house in the other Tamil movies.

Throughout the movie, the hero keeps asking “why did he fall in love with this girl instead of so many other beautiful girls in the city?”. The director never answers that question, because all of us know that there is no answer to it. Love does not have a reason. You don’t fall in love for reasons you know, but generally its for reasons you don’t know. You simply like that person. You try to find reasons everyday but you just cannot explain it. You just feel it and want the other person also to feel the same. There is no reason to really like someone. It just happens.

Well that’s exactly what the director has shown in the movie. That’s why the story is ordinary. But the essence of love life of any person on this earth is captured extraordinarily. After Vaaram Ayiram, I had sworn off Gautam Menon’ s movies. The title really captures the essence of the movie unlike the previous one.
Must watch for everyone who has ever fallen in love, and also who have not felt love in their life. It’s simply beautiful. LOVE!

Recount(2008)

I happened to see the movie RECOUNT recently, in which the lead role is played by Kevin Spacey(as Ron Clain). The movie is about US Predential election in 2000, George W.Bush Vs. Al Gore. The movie unfolds the legal drama which happened during the recount in Florida and how the Supreme Court of USA ruled against any recount over-ruling Florida supreme court's order.

I never had much interest in world politics, let alone America. All I remember of 2000 elections was that people and news channels telling that Al Gore won the election, but Bush got the post. The entirely and completely true.

The movie is taken well. The facts of the situation is amazingly clear even though these are legal proceedings. To quote a dialogue from the movie, towards the end we hear Al Gore saying that " I can't win even if i have really won" asking his team to give up in legal battle for the Recount after the Supreme Court's order.

But my take out from the movie after appreciating the screenplay was, how much am i really involved in the politics of my country. Do I even bother who is going to come in the next elections? Well in America you will never get elected if u are divorced. Hmm thats coming from a country which has a divorce rate of 50% in first marriage(yeah there are different rates for the second and third marriage also- that can be a study done in silo).After this Lok Sabha elections only i came to know that we can vote in our constituency even if we are not physically present.

Frankly i did not know about this before the elections. I came to know this from my collegue at office. Ofcourse it was my mistake that i did not seek our or try to find out how to vote when i am not present. But i also told my friend why dint he ever take the intiatiate to inform friends about the process that is available, but that there has been so many forwards everyday about some helpline which does not work, some small girl dying in somalia and asking to forward the mail to 10 other people, and many such mails which nowadays which go into the junk folder.

However I am yet to find the way to do that before next elections. First avenue to check was the internet. The election commission site does not offer any clarifications or provisions for the same. My next place will be to stop at the nearest election commission office.

Data that is published and is to be noted is that, the voter turnout is 59-60% this year, and 63% for US. So i think we are similar in that aspect at least. But I dont think we know how the whole electrol process is being conducted in our country. We high-and-mighty-corporate guys don't bother vote(that includes me also- if people are doing it i applaud them). Are we sure that your vote is not cast by someone else? Are we sure that our vote is not misused?

Frankly I know that we have less choices in terms of political parties. We can vote to people who steal as well do something for the country as against people who only steal. Thats the utmost decision we can make in this political scenario. Or cast a invalid vote which ensure our vote is not misplaced and people who have done their due diligence are actually getting the results which they wanted. Thus we can atleast help people who are actively involved in what they want in their government.

HAPPINESS

'Happiness' is what we thrive for day and night. We watch movies to keep us in a different world of happiness. We drink to elevate us to state of happiness. Rather the apt explanation will be, we constantly make efforts to change the state in which we are currently in. The more easily it’s achieved, the better. We don’t want to break our brains over it either. A small exercise which we all should do at some point in our life.( this is not one of our usual HR exercises. )Listing what will make us happy now.

Well i know there will be one or two points about career. One or two points about making more money or buying something. If u are floating between 20- 30.. there is element of finding your true love. Because after 30 if u havent found u lose hope. Well the list dosent stop there. Make another list, what has made u happy when you were young. Young is the earliest u remember about urself. Well the real essence comes out when you compare it. Am sure, the list will be mutually exclusive. It was for me at least. If i think about it, i love the sea, i can sit days watching the waves and play in the sand, i derived happiness from it when i was 5. I love to play with my friends and talk to them for hours, chit chat something or the other. i love cycling early in the morning when there is no traffic just to see the sunrise and breathe fresh air. The mutual exlusivity which i told, does that mean that i dont derive happiness from all these small yet beautiful activities any more?? Nooo!!! Its just that i forgot, or i dint realise that i used to enjoy all these things and I dont do it anymore.

I am not going to say that probably u ll realise this when you die. Maybe the last thought we might have when we die might be " great! finally the day has arrived!" or maybe " do i look good now?? what if look the same without any change in afterlife??" I read a quote long time back and it has been my favorite ever since "Happiness lies not in things but in taste." Probably we should give some thought it by taking a break from our never ending search. It might serve as a compass.
